Deaf/Hearing Impaired Sail
The Rona Sailing Project has been running sailing voyages for deaf and hard of hearing adults for over 15 years. These provide the opportunity to experience life on board a sailing yacht with a group of people whom you have never met before. During your time on board you learn what it’s like to live on a sailing yacht, from cooking and cleaning through to sailing and helming (steering) day and night. On board to help you run the yacht will be the Skipper and Afterguard who are all experienced in running such voyages. There will also be at least one qualified sign language communicator. Every year the Rona Sailing Project aims to supply 3 voyages for deaf and hard of hearing, one of which is the ASTO Small Ships Race. For this particular voyage the Crew (you) needs to be under 25 years of age.
These trips are full of fun and excitement and regularly cross the Channel to France and the Channel Islands. The time spent on board involves hard work and teamwork, but the reward is knowing that the wind you can feel on your cheek is there because of the work that you have done with the sails.
